There’s only one real secret to weight loss in terms of success vs failure.
Before I tell you though, first a question you need to think about for a few seconds and then answer! Seriously, think about it for a moment! I’m not messing around here!
Are you ready? Here’s the million dollar question:
DO YOU ACTUALLY WANT TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN LOSING WEIGHT?
I’m not going to pull any punches here. You must be interested in weight loss, or why else would you be reading this? So maybe you’re thinking that’s a silly question, but I’ll tell you why it isn’t…
There are a LOT of people out there who’ll tell you how badly they want to lose weight, but REFUSE to do the ONE thing that will ensure successful long term weight management.
Oh, they’ll spend money on home exercise equipment, consider liposuction (ew) or lap band surgery, go on ill advised starvation diets, eat nothing but soup, eat nothing but yogurt or whatever else… generally make themselves miserable, and what happens the moment they crack and go back to their old habits?
They put all the weight straight back on, and then some! Am I wrong? Nope!
So what’s the ONE thing they should all be doing, but aren’t doing? The thing that would almost certainly guarantee success? The thing that’s *gasp* EVEN MORE IMPORTANT THAN EXERCISE?
It’s simple – You’ve got to count your calories!
More specifically, spend a little time educating yourself on what your calorie and macronutrient (that’s protein, carbohydrate and fat) requirements are, and then choose the foods you like and do the maths and come up with a meal plan you can stick to meet those requirements.
Actually you don’t even need to do the maths, because you can download my nutrition calculator which does that for you. It’s quite easy, doesn’t take very long, and like I keep saying it will make all the difference between success and failure in your weight loss journey.
Think about any time you’ve ever succeeded with anything in life.
Everyone reading this out there in internet land is going to be good at something. Either in your career, some creative or artistic interest, being a great parent… there’s something you have been very successful at either recently or some time in the past.
Whatever that thing is, did you just wing it and find that it amazingly worked out just perfectly? More likely you did some research on the subject, or found someone who already had the skills to teach you how to do it, right? Well this is no different, forget about winging it and hoping for the best, do your homework and create a plan. Then stick to that plan as best you can.
Why don’t I just TELL YOU what to eat?
Oh, that never works. First of all, I don’t know your individual requirements and they will be different for everyone. I don’t know what foods you like and what foods you hate, and generally people won’t eat what they hate. Also although my Personal Trainer’s Certification covers sports nutrition, I’m not a nutritionist and don’t claim to be able to write you a customised nutrition plan that will guarantee all of your vitamin and mineral requirements. As far as calorie counting goes though, we can make a damn good start right here. While on the subject, you might want to consider a good vitamin and mineral supplement if you’re in any doubt at all about your diet.
