I need to stop neglecting this blog and update it more often.

It is after all my official business site. I’m a lot more active on my facebook page and I’m trying to do a bit more on instagram too.

Speaking of instagram, here’s about where I’m at and what I’m up to right now with my own training and fueling goals.

A fresh batch of my world famous, high fibre, high protein, choc & coconut cupmuffins.

Astute followers may recall I saw my best results pushing 3200 cals per day last year and actually dropped approx 2kg in the process of pushing that maximum usable level of intake.

This year so far i’ve been a lot less consistent, more erratic and sub optimal in my levels of fueling. Although I’m V happy with my gains in the shoulders, arms, chest & lower body (in that order)… I’m a bit fatter around the waist atm and I intend to address that over the spring.

This stuff will mess with your head as the natural instinct or impulse is to cut calories… But what I know I actually need to do is get back UP towards that consistent optimal 3200 plus or minus whatever my saturday night pizza brings me to.

From there I’ll be well positioned to cut to a strategic level of deficit in the summer for my leanest condition up hopefully 3 or 4kg from the start of the year.

Winter ponderings

Technically it’s not even winter yet but man how awful was that cold snap last week?

On the one hand, cold weather is a good thing because it means I can start thinking taking a few days off to go snowboarding, but on the other hand, if I’m not snowboarding all I want to do when it’s cold is wrap up in a blanket, drink hot tea and complain about it! Ironic because I have a British / Scottish background and you’d think I’d be well equipped to cope with cold weather, but apparently I am not!

So anyway, my strategy for winter is supposed to be to eat as much as possible to pack on some size, which I’ll then refine and define through out the spring in preparation for summer time. The extra cold weather has actually hindered that plan a little bit though, as I tend to just chain drink hot cups of tea to keep warm, which tends to mean that I miss a few of my scheduled protein shakes. All in all though I would say I am still on track to meet my personal goals for the year.

The other good thing about winter is training in a compression t-shirt with a tanktop over the top (because I feel a bit of a prat wearing just the compression t) and also wearing a beanie to keep my head warm! That’s something I can’t really explain, but if you’ve trained wearing this stuff you’ll know what I mean. It’s just good! Putting this stuff on gets my head into the zone and psyched up to do a good workout.

Meanwhile, updates on this site have been few and far between, for a variety of reasons.

For one I’ve been a little pre-occupied working on some top secret musical projects which have kept me busy and taken up a bit of my free time which would otherwise be used writing blog entries and other articles about training and so forth.

Also I have a respectable amount of clients / sessions per week now so I guess I have taken my foot off the gas a little as far as marketing & promotion goes, and I’m spending more of my online time coaching some of my online personal training clients in particular.

With that being said though, if you are super enthusiastic about getting great results and want to train with me at least twice a week, I will make time for you! So hit me up via the contact form on this site and we’ll get started.

I have some ideas for more articles so stay tuned, I will try to get some written up in the near future.

Life is for living!

Don’t you think people would be a lot happier if they just made the effort to get up, get out and do something?

It be hard to organise things, work out the travel plans and logistics and hope nothing unexpected happens that derails the plan… but you’ve gotta TRY, don’t you think?

Well that was one of my resolutions for this year, get out and do more stuff. I got in early with my trip to Wilson’s Promontory and already posted some photos of me climbing the mountains there already. Mountaineering and bushwalking is one thing but you might think I’d be too old for climbing trees, right? Well, you’d be wrong because that’s exactly what me and the boys and girls went and did yesterday at the Trees Obstacle Course in Belgrave.

Absolutely great fun day and quite a good work out as well! As a few of us kept saying throughout the day; “THIS IS LIVING”.

We’re going back next month, and we’ve got plans for more rock climbing, maybe some para sailing and who knows what else in the months ahead. There’s talk of skydiving as well but I’m not sure I have the intestinal fortitude for that one! As my dad always says “why jump out of a plane, if you don’t have to?”

Anyway gang. You only get one life, so get stuck into it! Train hard, be healthy, get outside and go on some adventures.

More photos hiking and mountain climbing.

Actually I think the tourist information brochure listed everything I did as a “short walk” but i think 1.5 hours each way qualifies as a “hike”, don’t you? Of course I pushed myself a little and arrived about 20 minutes ahead of schedule despite stopping to take photos.

So for no real reason here’s a few more pictures of me at Wilsons Promontory last week. It’s probably my favourite place in the world.

Wait, are personal trainers supposed to have photos wearing jeans? Oh well at least I have my DHPT jacket on in some of these, and my Combat Academy long sleeve T over my shoulders in the mountain photos.

My site is still a bit short on photos so I might have to get some new ones soon.

Stay tuned everyone, there’s videos and lots of important news still to come!

Getting active in the great outdoors

Hey everyone!

Sorry there has been a bit of a delay between updates, I’ve been away hiking, rock climbing and mountain climbing!

Lots of fun and great exercise too. I plan on doing a lot more of this over the summer, perhaps some kayaking as well and who knows what else!

Stay tuned everyone, I expect to have some major announcements on the site for the new year as well as more blogs, video blogs and everything else you’ve come to expect from me.

Don’t you just hate spam?

I’ve been getting a lot of spam lately and more disturbingly I keep getting “message could not be delivered” type messages regarding messages from my email address, but not sent by me and with someone else’s name on them.

In other words, it looks like some spammer has use my address in a mass mailing program. So if you’re here because you’ve received one of these mails I can only apologise and assure that I am not responsible! I’ve contacted my hosting company for advise but so far they have not been much help.

Fitness Tips & Home Workout Program By Email coming soon

I’m keeping busy lately with my training, eating a lot, working in my night club and of course writing programs and working with my PT clients. Also you might have noticed some changes on the website. It’s still a work in progress and I’m deciding on the best place for certain things, should it be in the blog, should it be a page of it’s own and so forth.

All of my clients are doing really well and getting some good results so far, so I’ll be working on getting some more testimonials onto the site and perhaps some before and after pictures to go along with them. It seems to take me a long time to get any of this web stuff done though so be patient, most of my energy is always going to be focussed on training which of course is my #1 priority.

I’m really proud of my clients who are losing a few inches, doubling the amount of push ups they can pump out, and doing full range of motion squats and various other activities they weren’t able to do a month or two ago. Good work you guys and girls!

The other thing I’m working on which is quite exciting is my opt-in email subscription newsletter which is going to be chock full of fitness and nutrition tips, home workout exercise programs and hopefully some good motivation stuff to keep you on track with your goals. There’ll be videos too and exclusive content that you won’t find anywhere else. I’ve written some of the content already but still have a bit more work to do before I’m ready to launch this, but I’m quite confident that this will be very useful information for a lot of people out there.

Another fun thing I’ve been doing is working out a little at home with my new set of resistance bands. I hadn’t really done anything with resistance bands before but I found some on ebay that looked good and weren’t very expensive, so I thought I’d give them a try. For anyone who isn’t able to join a gym for some reason, I really recommend just picking up some resistance bands and using them in conjunction with some body weight resistance training at home. Obviously a <$50 set of bands is not going to be the same as thousands of dollars worth of gym equipment, but you can still get a pretty damn good work out with them.

I will add an entry and video feature doing some circuit training with the resistance bands to my already long list of things to do for the site. Stay tuned for that one!

That’s all for now, people.

Train hard, be well and live with passion!

End of week #1 update on the new site.

Well the site is really only 2 days old, but it’s Friday so here is my end of the week update for those who are already checking this out.

Training has been great this week. I’m doing a two day split program at the moment which means I get to hit all the major muscle groups at least twice a week. Today I’m hitting chest, triceps and shoulders for the third time since Sunday. This isn’t how I usually like to train but after doing 5 day splits for soooo long I wanted to try something different to shock things up. I think it’s really worked for me and I’ll probably continue with it, alternating between say 6 weeks of a 5 day split and then 6 weeks of a 2 day split.

So I have one week left on this program and then I have plans for a new program which I’m going to use to make some strength gains over the next couple of months. I’m going to do some pyramid sets and some other things that I haven’t really utilised in the past. I’m also doing some boxing training in the evenings on my floor to ceiling ball, although I must confess that I’ve slacked off on that a little this week due to the hot hot weather. I’m hoping for some more mild conditions ahead and I’ll be working hard at the cardio side of things as well as hitting the weights like I always do.

Aside from that I have been spending a lot of time here working on the website and trying to get it to look the way I want it to. Unfortunately my web design skills are not really up to date, so I am finding it a little harder than I had expected. I really feel strongly about the site needing a personal touch and not just being another cookie-cutter web design that looks the same as everything else. After all it is a PERSONAL training website, and the emphasis has got to be on the personal side!

Bear with me and I will figure this out soon enough and add loads more content as well.

Until next time, train hard & live with passion!
